Hello group! Its been a while since I logged on. I just wanted to advise anyone who is planning on being by the Munich area to visit BMW Welt. It was a great experience. I went to the Mercedes and Porsche musuems in Stuttgart as well. I took pictures of the two E9´s that they had on display.

There was an interesting thing that I found when I leaned over to look into the car. Between the drivers seat and passsenger seat, right behind of the parking brake was a chrome tie-down for the seatbelt which I have never seen before.

Does anyone have this type of system, if so any advantages/disadvantages?

Regards,

Bill,

Thanks for your post. My wife and I have also visited the MB and Porsche museums about a year after the new Porsche Museum opened. Even though we had two Porsches and one MB at the time, we both preferred the MB Museum.

I visited the BMW Museum in the early '80's after completion of a technical meeting with the engine designers, but frankly there wasn't much there at that time!! We are returning to Munchen this May after a river cruise ending in Nuremburg, and plan to visit the BMW Museum. Do you have any recommendations regarding amount of time to devote to it, time of the day to arrive, etc? Also, should I make a reservation in advance? THANKS for any assistance.

Gary

When we visited two years ago we bought tickets the day before to make sure we could get in to the factory tour which I highly recommend, this was in July. But we bought museum tickets when we arrived, you can walk around the Welt before visiting the museum. Bring your CCA membership card for a discount to the museum.

Steve, I have seen these as well but the parts book shows as only on non-US coupes. The 2800CS typically had the receiver on a belt with a clip on the handbrake to hold it when not in use. On the 2002 these appeared around 1971 and then disappeared.

BMW museum and Welt are well worth a visit. Wish I had arranged a tour ahead of time. If I recall correctly, you can tour the classic center by arrangement too. Email them to set it up. [email protected]

Would like to ditto the sentiment. My wife and I went back in 2014. I didn't care so much for the welt, but the museum was amazing.

I was particularly enamored with that new M1 concept car.

Hello Gary,

I spent three days in Munchen in total. A half of one day was sepnt at the BMW museum which I felt was more than enough. That of course includes going to shop and their showroom. They do have a cafe called M1 for a snack and a restaurant as well if you should be ther for lunch time for example. On Mondays they are closed. I would advise that you check for more informatiuon on their webpage. You can rent out any vehicle you want for an hour prices vary depending on the car you choose. I didnt see that being offered by Mercedes or Porsche, so its a great plus! The Audi musuem is about 80 kilometers to the north of Munchen, in Ingolstadt. If you have time to spare why not pass by as well. I couldnt due to limited holiday time that I had. I will combine in a future trip with a visit to the VW musuem in Wolfsburg. If you are going to be in Nuremburg, why not try a lap at the race course? I´m sure that you will enjoy it!

B.T.W. If you are a beer lover, i reccomend ordering a Bitburger tap beer. One word, WOW!
