Some more engine work. Too many engines and too little time.

43 years old screws, replated and looking like a golden necklace. I love the old-style look of yellow Zink.

Test-assembly of cooling fan. Looks like a war bird just missing the wings.

I wish my wheel covers were that nice. Mine will polish up but will have a few small rust areas. Just temporary anyway while I clean up the Style 5's.

Yesterday I did a job on my heater box. It was a total mess full of dirt and grime. The core was super dirty and all the damping foam on the air flaps had disintegrated into dust.

Did not remember to take pictures of the sad condition before start.

Here is the 4mm neoprene cell foam that I used to replace the damping foam. My volvo XC 90 was degraded to working table for this cutting.

The heater core was now cleaned, tested and painted.

Another flap. I do not trust the glue for long life in hot environment, so I used rivets to secure the foam

The completed heater box, ready for installation.

Great job so far! Very meticulous! Probably a coincidence but every Norwegian I know that is a car guy here in states and from the people I've followed in Norway on build threads, etc. seem to all do excellent work! I grew up with a Norwegian car guy that lived next door and he was very meticulous, he also made fake teeth for people, attention to detail was very important.....LOL...Awesome! Can't wait until it is complete! Keep up the great work!

I have spent a lot of time lately on preparing the engine bay for the shiny restored engine.

Before:

During work:

Primed with epoxy primer

Cutting some vibration-damping mats.

Painted.

As you can see, the rest of the car paint is both dirty and yellowed by age, so it does not match very well. It will need a total repaint later, so I do not care so much about this right now. The important part was to fix the places that cannot be painted later when the engine is back in place.

Long time since last update. Have been busy with another car project.

Now I have started restoring the headlamps. They were in typical bad condition with rusty frames and fittings.

The frames and reflector cups were all blasted and then electro-zinked.

Then primed and painted

Not quite finished yet, but moving in the right direction.

I have also started to restore a wood steering wheel. The spokes were quite badly cracked, so I have chosen to dismantle the horn buttons, fill the cracks and paint the spokes.

This is how it looks after sanding the spokes.

Did you do the body work on your shock towers? I'm assuming you used some filler in the welded areas? Looks fantastic.

Thanks for the nice comments. Yes I did the bodywork. Not so much body filler. New steel panels. The old ones were rusted and deformed so I welded in new ones.
