I'm curious...
What's the difference between the alloy stock rims (Alpina style) regarding E3 vs. E9?

E9 partnr. 36 11 1 113 085
E3, E12... partnr. 36 11 1 119 534

This one seems a bit confusing. The e3 definitely got the same wheels as the e9 in later years. Many of the e3's seem to have versions with a silver center, but a lot can happen in 40 years.

I think that "36 11 1 119 534" is the part number for the Turbine wheel shown above. I didn't think that these came on the e3.

"36 11 1 113 085" looks like this. There is no raised lip around the whee center, and the spokes don't have ridges on them.

It could be that the later e3s built concurrently with e12 may have had the turbine style wheel, but just a guess. The e12 came out in 1972 in Europe.

I was wondering the same. I even looked up the production run of the e12. Did they really start as early as '72? My friend had a '76 with the e9 style wheels, silver center. Wheels on a 40yo car are a crap shoot though.

actually, i have seen a '76 530i. there was a difference between the '76 and the '77 / '78 for the location of the fuel filler as i remember. the '77 thru '81 was on the side of the car and i think the '76 was on the rear of the car like the e3 (i could be very wrong here ... its an old memory ... as i have only seen one '76. it also seems that the hood was different, the '76 had a raised "shield" shape on the hood. the '77 thru '81 had the raised narrow section like the e21.

Scott,

You were right, the 530 came here in 75, the facelift occurred for the 77 model year and the 528i debuted here in 1979.
