You may well find that it is an LSD. If it is built with no pre-load the wheels will turn independently of each other. This was the case with older 2002 diffs......
As I recall the cars were imported like all others as `standard` RHD CSL`s. Somebody, BMW GB I assume, decided to send either 5 or 6 cars ( I have the VIN numbers somewhere..) to the UK Alpina dealer in Pershore which was run by Brian Muir an Alpina driver. The cars just had light modifications...
Thats a very good way to describe it Gerrit......there are many way to find out what a car `was` rather than what it `is`. Fortunately I think most fakers are new to these cars and are unaware of these things........which make it almost impossible to pass off a CS as a CSL to someone who does...
There was a BMW Dealer here who had a large collection of BMW`s and about 5 M1`s. I am pretty sure they converted it to RHD. When the collection was sold I bought this car for a guy in Australia as being RHD it was perfect for him. No recollection of his name though....Alex
Its a well known fact here that BMW GB sent a few ( I think maybe 6...) CSL`s to the UK Alpina dealer for a few modifications, adjustable roll bars etc...the VIN numbers are known.

Having worked for BMW in the 1970`s I would say there is no chance a `72 car would have been converted to RHD in the UK. The only cars that were are some early 2800CS cars which were done at Dover import centre. These were a lash up by BMW standards so they would never have agreed to them being...

It doesent work like that...the reason the compression height seems so much is because with a 2500 engine the swept area of the piston is approx 80cc less than a 3000 but using the same combustion chamber size.....
