    Ignition switch replacement

Yes, grub screw out. I have turned the key around, but the switch does not slide into place easily. Does it need some more pressure (push). I just don’t want to break the new switch.

    Ignition switch replacement

I have replaced the ignition switch in the steering column that attaches to the back end of the steering lock cylinder. My problem is that I can’t get the switch to go all the way in. I line up the grub screw hole and the rectangular slot the cylinder should close into, but I can’t seem to get...

    Ignition

I see the ignition switch part is available through a few internet sources. Is it fairly easy to replace? I can imagine 47 years of wear, might be time to replace it.

    Ignition

ok, now that I have changed my starter, my problem appears to be in another area, the ignition. More precisely, the steering column ignition key lock. If I insert the key and turn, everything lights up, but no start, no cranking. If I put outward pressure on the key and push to one side, I...

    Changing starter.

Ok, so I've changed out the starter, a super PITA job, but that's done. I got one quick crank, then back to nothing. It may not be the starter after all! Anyone know how to test or bypass the ignition switch? I'm fearing my problem may be the switch. Any other suggestion in the ignition...

    Changing starter.

Crap! You generally don't find this kind of design flaw in BMW cars. It was so strange, I assumed there was a easy solution I had been overlooking. At least I can stop thinking there is a "trick" and go straight at the problem. Problem one, I don't have a trunk tool kit. (It disappeared...

    Changing starter.

is there some trick? I'm trying to change out my starter and it appears to be impossible to reach the two bolts that hold it on. They look like 17mm but a metal flange on the starter inhibits a socket. Not enough space for a crescent/box wrench. I don't understand why it would be so difficult...

    ebay parts prices

I've been thinking that about lots of eBay prices. Some items I have bought just a couple of years ago now go for four times as much now. I guess that points to the collectibility of these cars. Also glad I bought extra stuff back then!

    Rear brake issues!

I completed the repair. Purchased the replacement metal line, shaped it, then installed new cylinders and drums. Good to go. On to the next issue.

    Rear brake issues!

Oh, I can snip the metal brake line and get it off. I just don't have a metal line to replace it with. I did a cursory search on the internet and didn't see any available replacement for this item. I figured I was searching incorrectly and if I posted here I might get sent in the proper...

    Rear brake issues!

i hate when problems come in batches! First problem I have to fix (70 2800cs) is that yesterday my right rear brake cylinder gave up its life! Luckily I have the new rear cylinders and new drums to go with new pads. Problem arises with the removal! The 11mm nut around the metal brake line...

Installation chrome trim on rocker cover

Where on earth did you buy the new rocker trim? I've been looking for that for years, it's never listed as an available part. (Unless I've been looking incorrectly all these years). My car didn't have it when I acquired it. Is there a link to a source?

    Temp question

Yesterday I flushed the system over and over till only clear water came out. Refilled (using coolant mixture), bled the system, went for a short drive. It operated in normal range. Couldn't test further as I had an entirely new problem arise. I'm addressing that issue in a new thread "brake...

    Rear brake conversion?

My 70 2800 cs had a bizarre rear brake incident yesterday that I don't even know how to explain... Moving on to the repairs, I can either rebuild the rear drum system (needing new parts since now most are missing on one side) or I can do the conversion to rear disc's. Does anyone know of a...

    Temp question

It'd be a good idea to check the radiator, and I will. It's not original I don't think. My car mechanicals were all restored by Coupe king around 2004. I probably have less than a couple thousand miles on her since.

    Temp question

I think re- bleeding the system may be in order as was suggested. I'm fairly certain all parts are correct and installed properly. That sounds logical. I was happy that it was only going to just under the 3/4 mark and holding. That was a major victory compared to what it had been doing...

    Temp question

sadly, my e9 has been underutilized for a few years now. Happily, I have been taking the time to correct all the little issues that put her into storage. One of the issues is she had started overheating without warning. Recently I replaced the water pump and thermostat, flushed out the system...

    Bimmerfest

Bimmerfest...damn! Dammit, I registered to go but completely forgot about it. I guess they don't send out any reminders of the event, so my loss I suppose. Dave L

    Kidney Grille Revolution!

Kidney grilles it's a name based on shape and size. Huh.....I never thought they looked like nostrils. It's become too iconic, I doubt you would ever get that thinking changed. It's one of the few identifying marks left on modern BMW's. Dave L

    Rocker trim?

Rocker trim I've never years of them. I've checked many other parts sources, W&N, Jaymic, and others, no one ever lists that part. Thanks, I will order some new ones. Dave L
