Free with pickup in Oakland, CA—early E3 front seats, Marineblau Skai

Bump—I couldn't bring myself to throw these away, so I moved them. Oh, brother. I still want them to go to someone who can use them, and I'd love to free up the space in my garage. Bavaria is nearly four years out of my possession, now in very good hands getting lots of love in Maryland. Rare...

Free with pickup in Oakland, CA—E3 rear door glass

Forgot I had this in my garage...I have a spare driver-side rear door window that came with my Bavaria, which I no longer own. I am moving in mid-October and do not want to move any Bavaria parts, so it's free to anyone who'd like to pick it up. Glass is in decent condition, with some rubbing...

Free with pickup in Oakland, CA—early E3 front seats, Marineblau Skai

Got out to the garage and pulled the seats out. My memory was wrong—only the driver's seat has a split seam. The passenger seat is clean. I had pulled one of the headrests out (big mistake, as we all know); it was in there once, hopefully it could go in again. I also found a driver-side rear...

Free with pickup in Oakland, CA—early E3 front seats, Marineblau Skai

I haven't been here in a long time—I sold my Bavaria over two years ago, and I think it's changed hands again since. Maybe the new owner is here! I still have both front seats that were in my car when I bought it, and I am moving and need to pass them along to someone new. They are the early E3...

My Bavaria is live on BaT

Loaded the Bav onto transport to its new home in Salt Lake City yesterday. A few tears may have been shed—not of regret, necessarily, but sadness. Nevertheless, I am very confident it will be well-loved and enjoyed in its new home. And, if any of you are worried about future generations’...

    '73 Bavaria on BaT

That's mine. It is decent—not a concours winner by any stretch, but ready to roll as a driver, cars and coffee goer, tourer, vintage rally-er, etc. I've loved it very much, but as my username implies, my Corvair came first, and it's overdue for some time, attention, and $$ to be lavished on it...

My Bavaria is live on BaT

Didn't expect this to go up quite so fast, since I just approved the ad text a couple of hours ago... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-bmw-bavaria-4/ I've bit the bullet and listed my Bavaria on Bring a Trailer. I guess I'll be something of a bellwether for where values of driver-quality...

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

IT LIVES! ...And I feel pretty dumb. I decided to get the car ready to go to the mechanic over the weekend by replacing all of the light bulbs, so that everything would be ready to test once the issue with the fuses was figured out. Then, just for giggles, once all the new bulbs were in I...

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

Load shedding relay checks out okay. I think the problem starts further back, since fuses 1-6 (all of the lights, essentially) aren't getting any power. The switch itself is getting power, since it runs through fuse 8, but obviously none of the wires that run between the hazard switch and the...

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

Initial testing...fuses 7-12 are all fine; instrument cluster seems to be working; fuses 1-6 are receiving no power (changing the fuses doesn't fix), so no exterior lights....

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

Finally managed to get the alternator out, with an assist from my father-in-law in town for the holidays, and...we may have found the primary source of the problem! The screw that was stymieing me turned out to be one I didn't have to remove—d'oh!—as it was for the integrated voltage regulator...

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

Just spoke to the inimitable Bill Arnold, who assured me that there is a second earth wire at the firewall, making this one redundant. Good thing, too, because for the life of me I couldn't figure out where it might have come detached! I guess it's just been hanging out down there for who knows...

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

Possible new wrinkle/stupid question...I went to start installing my new alternator today. Haven't gotten very far yet—the screw holding the plug in to the back doesn't want to budge—but I discovered that the negative battery cable wasn't attached to anything. As you can see in the picture...

    Rear 3-point Seatbelts

Very nice. I'd thought about doing something similar, but realized that the aftermarket speakers on my parcel shelf are in the way. I've heard that the rear three-point belts from a Series III Jaguar XJ6 (which have a similar parcel shelf-mounted retractor) work perfectly in an E3.

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

Okay, I've been able to take a few initial steps this weekend. Mostly, I've pulled my dashboard apart entirely...on initial visual inspection, nothing is visibly melted, discolored, etc. The wiring to the radio is, as expected, a mess—the harness that plugs into the back of the radio had four or...

    Electrical meltdown—advice (and/or consolation) needed

Thanks for all of the tips—I'll work through as many of these as I can once I can get to the car. We're doing a bit of crisis triage right now: a sick cat is at the top of the list, then getting my Corvair running properly so I have a car I can drive when I need one, then figuring out how deep...
