Is anyone going to Copperstate 1000 April 6-10

I heard that with police escort you guys were getting well up over 100mph. That’s pretty good for a 50 year old car

Is anyone going to Copperstate 1000 April 6-10

Scott, Glad someone who is a real mechanic got hands on your car. The things he said are carb "101" that anyone who works on older cars should understand. Heck, dual carbs were even used on American cars in the 1960's/70's. Suggest you buy these 2 things, throw them in your "E9 special tools"...

Is anyone going to Copperstate 1000 April 6-10

Scott, lucky you to be doing this event. It’s on my bucket list for when I retire. if you see a guy and his lady in a light yellow 1960’s corvette coupe (#39), say hi (my BFF racing pal Mike Kaleel). I think the 2 of you will hit it off. If I were going, I could tune your carbs during the...

    2800 CS differential or not?

In my limited experience, both an LSD and an open type diff will heat up at high speeds. With the much higher speeds in Europe (over 200kph), the not oil would both expand and foam more, and I guess BMW determined they needed a closed system to present oil loss over time. At the time, North...

    2800 CS differential or not?

AFAIK, none of the original E9 LSD's had the external vent/reservoir, except those modified by people like Alpina (who had an optional oil pump driven off the output flange to circulate to a cooler for racing). Some of the E9 LSD's may not have been marked with the "S" on the outside (or it...

Present-day values of German classic sports cars

This is why the advice to, "buy what you like, not what makes the best investment," is really GOOD advice. Buying for investment purposes is a very different thing. Having said that, there are cars I like that are good investments. I would love to have an alloy bodied 300SL, a 250 GTO, or an...

    How the Addiction Started

Very cool!! I remember these as my Uncle who lived 15 min away had one in that copper/brown color. It was a very hip car for its day,

Present-day values of German classic sports cars

Exceptions to the general softness in the E9 market are the 2 CSI's that sold recently on BAT for $138 and $160.

    Alternative to RealOEM and bmwmobiletradition-online

In the past year I recall someone posted a good online bmw parts lookup site that has all the same function as RealOEM without all the advertising junk. I neglected to bookmark that better parts site. Does anyone remember it and can you post the link/name? Thanks John P.S. My niece just...

    The cn36 cinturato at 1973 porsche factory….

"Heresy" Not at all. I'm sure many E9'ers have multiple great classics ... some of which will be more fun to drive.

WTB Suspension Technique Front and Rear Anti-Sway Bar Set

It depends on if you have a sensitive butt. For me, the reduction in roll and faster transition is substantial and meaningful. But, you do give up a small amount of ride compliance over some types of wavy/bumpy roads. I would do thicker anti-sway bars before going to lower/stiffer springs.

    Window Gasket Part

Your picture is not specific enough. I suspect you want is either part number 9 or 12 on the 41/14 BMW parts diagram. Part number 9 is: 51216754323 (and 51216754324 for the other side) Part number 12 is available from W&N and other general BMW suppliers (51211813195). Part 9 is, AFAIK, nla...

3.0CS car bogging down at around 4k rpm

Late to the discussion: how you’ve already solved the issue. if the engine is misfiring when you try to go over that 4000rpm ‘wall’ then I’d do the obvious ignition checks: gap too big, bad coil, iffy condenser, arcing in the cap, old wires/connectors shorting to the head etc. If the engine...

    Suspension suspense

On an E9, suspension compression (outside) pushes the end of the anti roll bar end up not down.

    Suspension suspense

IMHO, anti-roll bars transfer weight from the inside to the outside, which is the opposite of your description. W/o a bar, the inside suspension will extend to keep the inside tire pressed against the road. With a bar, the inside suspension is lifted/compressed due to the compressed outside...
