I’m trying to find the name of the tool to use to loosen up the bezel for some switches on the coupe, but all of the switches on an older 190SL. Posting on the SL forum, is like sending a letter at times :)

Rex, ask your friend in Los Alamitos, he used to work on Porsches and Benzs a long time ago. I am sure he has it. AJ

I don't think any of the tools pictured would grasp the bezels on the Mercedes 190 dash:

- The tools pictured have pins that go into holes that are co-axial with the armature of the switch (e.g., perpendicular to the plane of the dash face).

You’re right there @jmackro, there off to the side. But I like where his head is at and maybe able to bend the tangs on the fork 90* and see if they’re hard enough to turn them.

Circlip pliers?

I use circlip pliers to remove the style of bezel with holes that are co-axial with the armature of the switch (e.g., perpendicular to the plane of the dash face). A pair of circlip pliers with the tips bent 90 degrees (like the photo below) works great for this purpose.

As Rex wrote, if the tips on pliers like these could each be rotated 90 degrees, so that the pins face each-other, they might work on the Mercedes bezels. But could they be opened wide enough to get into the opposing holes?

And you can buy the cheap circlip pliers with different tong options for spit at most auto parts chains. I wouldn't put too much pressure on them, but it gives you alot of options, which I need as I don't know what I'm doing most of the time.

I saw some interesting options with google search for “Hook spanner”
Or pin spanner
Also saw one made out of wood but can’t find it now.
Made the main shape of hook spanner and then drilled through to insert the pin.

Rosette spinner?
Couple more pics to stimulate home made tools:)
