Have just finished refinishing the wood for the car. Also repaired the cracks in dash. Work continuses on prepping the car for painting... 'Peeling back the onion' is the catch word.
Should be at the paint shop by early April.

Here are a few pix of the wood. apologies for picture quality.

I reveneered a set a long time ago. I don't remember the varnish I used, but it was semi-gloss and it was spray on; came out great. I used a burl walnut veneer which was really beautiful, but maybe a bit over the top for the sportiness of the coupe. What veneer did you use?

Black walnut. This time I used spray mcclusky satin varnish. Many
Layers wet sanded between coats then final hand rubbed with
Rotten stone and linseed oil. Had brushed it on before. Took
To long to dry that way.

Nice job. Your choice of wood was very good. There are so many veneers to choose from.
Good job on the wet sanding as this fills the grain.
One question though, does it concern you that linseed oil can turn dark over time and also collects dirt?
When I do mine I am going to use a modern catalyzed lacquer. It fills well and gets very hard and comes as a satin finish.

Not worried at all about the linseed oil. Used it on my very first wood project (another 72 cs) 25 years ago. Still looks like new! The oil is only used to moisten a cloth pad that the rottenstone sticks to. It is merely wiped off after polishing the wood. Leaves a wonderful finish!

Wow that looks Great!

Did you use 3M veneer already with adhesive or did you use spray on? I assume you used a blade to cut around the edges and cutouts? Was it pretty tricky?

This was very good quality paper backed veneer. Contact cement was used to stick it on.
Trimmed with xacto knife. Tricky part was the inst cluster. Hope to have car ready for 2014
Legends of the Autobahn. All you coupe guys need to come to this event. Aug 15.
Car went to paint shop yesterday.
