Hi all,

Has anyone ever used hides from a UK company called Crestleather? (www.crestleather.com) My upholsterer is planning to source hides from them. I haven't heard of them and know nothing about the quality of their products. I spoke with someone in sales but found her to know nothing much about either sales or leather!

Intresting web sight. Does your trimmer not have a known source of supply? Car interiors have a much harder life the the usual leather sofa etc. So a specialist supplier of auto use leather is a must IMO. My trimmer had several suppliers with whom he had worked over the years so I was quite happy to follow his advice.

His normal line of work is furniture but he has recently got into a sideline of cars. He seems to be using the same suppliers as he does for his day job. Can you remember who your trimmer was recommending for leather?

Google Bill Hirsch. he has Bridge of Weir hides, or used to anyway. These hides are vat dyed, rather than topical dye. These are the leathers used in the high end Brit cars. See what shows up. How do I know?/ I had my E Type done with them back in the day and was more than pleased with them Also google just Bridge of Weir hides and you can do some research. Bill Hirsch has been around for ever and ever and is a straight guy to do business with.

I have a friend in the business of restoring classic German and American car interiors. He says that 'furniture leather' should NEVER be used in an automobile. It just doesn't hold up to the additional temperature exposure, as well as the UV light exposure. He ONLY uses high quality leather processed for automobile interiors.
