Who is the board's preferred supplier of springs now? Are Carl's springs which I believe are now not made by Suspension Techniques good? Does anyone use progressive springs?

I got a set of uprated springs from Jaymic for my Tii, don't know who makes
them though.

There is a firm in Sheffield that will make springs to order. I used them for springs on various rally cars in the dim distant past. The name I cannot remember but I am sure a web search will dig them up

I just installed the springs and swaybars from Carl. The swaybars are made by ST. The springs were not labelled in any manner and it would be my guess that they are not ST since the ST stuff had installation manuals, stickers, etc whereas the springs were just springs.

I am quite happy with the ride. The springs from Carl are just a tad lower (I posted details recently) but the spring material seemed to be the same diameter and I can't say if they are any stiffer. On the otherhand, the swaybars from ST combined with new Bilsteins are simply "bitch'n" to put is mildly when compared to stock swaybars and Boge shocks. I would say that my coupe now anticipates corners!

I would recommend giving Carl a call about the springs, he may not tell you the source but he'll likely have some details on the specifications.

Carl (I think it was Carl) recommended that I NOT put in lowering springs in a CSL, as the car is so much lighter than the cars that upgraded springs are designed for. In his opinion, it makes for way too rough of a ride. Don't know how true that would be for a UK CSL, as it is not as light as other "ultra light" CSLs.

I bought Carl's springs and I am very happy with them. Ride height was lowered just right but stiffness did not change. (or I didn't notice much change) While the paint color has changes over the years, I don't think the specific spec has changed. I think Carl has to order bulk as they are special measurements that are unique to him.

How much lighter is a CSL than a garden variety CS/CSi? Not much I'd say.........a few hundred pounds? If you've restored yours anything like I did mine, which included some liberal application of Dynamat, and a modern battery and sounds system I'd guess I'm almost the same weight as a non-CSL. I have uprated springs in mine, I honestly can't even remember what they are. Alpina? Hardy&Beck? I don't know. I had to make shims for the rear springs as the car was a little too low in the rear without them. The ride is firm to be sure but it handles well and looks great.

Malc - I took out springs that I had jaymic's people make - I had them made too stiff and decided now to go with ones that specialists have devised as suitable.

I think Munich legends have progressive ones - they could be interesting.

Le Mans was good but like you say boring watching the diesels dominate. I have done it now though and will next go to the Classic for sure.

Do you have the part number for the springs? How much lower than the standard springs will they make the car?

Are you all set for the Classic?

The springs that came on my CSL, and I don't recall if they have any dots, but I believe they're the OEM units, set up the car in the nose high attitude that was common for the vintage. It's a look that I think works well if you have the original 14 inch wheels with the concomitant tall sidewall tires. In her current boy-racer persona my CSL is wearing 16 inch Alpinas, and with the lower profile tires the original springs just don't look right in my opinion. YMMV
