Is my coil backwards?

Geeze, I tried to install a petronix ignitor and saw that my ballast resistor has two green wires joined to it by a male spade at the base and the emerging red wire goes to the NEGATIVE side of the coil. Meanwhile the black wire to the points come off the POSITIVE side. This is the exact opposite of the petronix instructions (ballast to positive, points wire to negative side). Car runs fine as is but cannot install petronix.

I have Pertronix.

The black Pertronox wire goes to negative side of coil where there are also three black wires on one spade that enters the radiator panel.

The red Pertronix wire goes to ballast resistor which also has a green wire headed to rad wall. The other side of ballast is black/red which goes to positive side of coil, thereby using the resistor as Pertronix recommends.

Chris, my ballast resistor output is also red/green but to the negative side of the coil. If I follow the petronix directions, red will go to ballast (negative) and black will go to points (positive)......the opposite of what you have. Thus my confusion. In theory, this should not make a difference but theory and practice can be two different things. The coil only mounts one way as you know.
