The old thread with sticker locations is not showing pictures anymore and a number of us would like to know where the decals go. Specifically I need to know where the orange "Original Teile" parts one goes - I have seen it in different locations. I had the radiator reservoir tank one but it fell off so if others here can post pics of those 2 locations and any others that I missed I think the members would find this useful.

Here is what I have original to my June/1972 car:

VIN/Color/Tire Pressure (passenger side top of wheel well below firewall)

Air Conditioning silver and red max charge (passenger inner fender by hood hinge)

Emissions (driver side top of wheel well below firewall)
IMG-20120221-00277.jpg

Oil Change (driver side in front of strut mount)
IMG-20120221-00278.jpg

Battery (driver side lined up with relays and right of hood hinge)
IMG-20120221-00279.jpg

Safety/Weight (end of driver's door) - looks like Fritz may have had a few biers before putting this one on:
IMG-20120221-00280.jpg

Air Pressure (inside fuel filler door)
IMG-20120221-00281.jpg

Inspection (location: unknown, I found it loose on the frame rail when I got the car)
IMG00210-20100901-2108.jpg

Color plate (driver side above door hinge)

Please add missing decals and locations, thanks.

Steve,

I've never seen the inspection decal, very unusual. The emissions decal moved to the passenger fender and became black and not silver sometime in 72, between VIN and tire decal. I will post photos in a bit.

Yes I am thinking these may have moved around by year or even by assembly man. Perhaps why the orange sticker keeps jumping around. Ben at La Jolla said he usually sees them placed on the underside of the hood down by the radiator, dead center, but no definitive location.

My Orange sticker is where your oil sticker is. Or said another way, opposite side of the nameplate/ paint.

My Battery sticker is on the vertical above the relays on the largest curve.

I have only seen orange stickers near passenger strut top. Ben is a nice guy but still learning about BMWs, they were never in center of hood.

Emission Decals

Another topic where decals moved during production. Early 70 2800CS is black on passenger side, 71 2800CS is silver on driver side, Steve's 72 is silver on driver side, 73 and 74 is black on passenger side.

When the debate ocurrs regarding model years in the US, just refer to your emissions decal and the debate will end (if it still exists). Production began each September and ended each July or very early August. Again, this is just for US/NA models. The first 2800CS was September of 69 and it is a 1970 model for the US, 1969 was Euro designation only and production began earlier.

Other than EPA decal, mine are the same as Steve's. I photographed mine before the repaint.

CSL stickers?

Were there any differences b/w euro vs US cars and the stickers? What about the CSL? Did the fuel injection sticker go where the carb stickers went?

Know many coupe owners want to replicate the looks of the original factory engine bay by applying these repro stickers, but when my coupe is repainted later on this year, I will delete most of these stickers, saved by a few applied in the VIN plague compartment. JMO, but I think the engine bay just looks too clutter and busy with ALL of the stickers in place.

Adding these images to this thread as per Steve's request. From my untouched '74 engine bay:

Why mess up the engine bay with stickers?

I agree with Bert and Stefan,
the engine bay looks so much tidier without any stickers, bar the colour label by the metal BMW plate.

Was the coolant sticker, which is seen affixed to the older brass/black tank, ever come affixed to the newer plastic reservoir tank? If not, did those cars have that sticker?

Luis,

The plastic tank isn't as flat as the metal tank so I don't know how you would place one there if I remember correctly.
