A couple of friends of my are gonzo historic rally fans.
This year they are doing a rally around South America (they last did Peking -Paris in 2011).

Anyway, I'm posting here because there's an E9 on the rally that's doing fairly well.
But the serious rallyists drive old sh*t (oldest car is from 1907).

I'd love to do one of these someday, but the entry fee is close to the cost of a restored CSL so the closest I'll ever get is drinking a beer with the guys when they get back.

Anyway, the blogs of the various competitors makes for interesting reading over the morning cuppa joe.

Hat's off to anyone with balls enough to take old iron out like that. I ran the Lacarrera Panamericana five times in the early 2000's, and it pales in comparison to the realities of the South American rally. Gotta love the spectacular effort it takes to just complete the event.

scroll down just a bit

When these guys did the Paris to Peking, there were a couple of Austrian MD's that drove an old ... I think it was a Lagonda ... that does NOT HAVE A FRONT WINDSCREEN. They just had goggles, caps, and long pre-war driving coats/gauntlets.

There were some jokes about how much weight their coats gained at the end of the rally. Bet they were stiff as boards.

go e9ers!

Thx for sharing!

Looks fairly stock except for the roll bar and seats. Some more pics if you visit the organizers page, look in galleries,on day 5.

Looks like they had an issue in the right rear wheel area.

Bfeng - maybe you could ask your friends for an event right up (with car prep?) when ya meet them for beers ;-)
