From time to time the brakes on my 73CS squeal pretty bad. It is not all the time and varies from hard pressure to just slowing down. Are there pads out there that can eliminate this?

Thanks, new to the group and the information here is great.

Try some "copper dope" anti seaze compound on the back of the pads. There should be a spring type clip under the locating pins to stop this happening. I would recommend new pins and clips every time you change the pads anyway
Some modern replacement pads have a "plastic" film backing to try to stop this

Malc:

Thanks, I'm taking the car in a couple of weeks for 5 speed upgrade and suspension overhaul, I'll have them replace the pads as well.

Echo Malc's recommendation, and have your wrench chamfer the leading edge of the pads about 6mm. That helps avoid the vibrations that cause squeal too.
