CSL 1mm Holy Aluminium Number Plate Restoration

Markos You are right - thank you - I had searched under number plate not licence plate! Here is the link so all information is connected - no change over vin numbers though and it does appear the change may have been across all models so more for BMW cost control than weight savings for the...

CSL 1mm Holy Aluminium Number Plate Restoration

Thank you Burky, One vote in for chrome! - Anyone else with a City Pack CSL? Bill Rama in Melbourne has a city Pack and his is Aluminium - if I heard him correctly, he says the CS coupes and very early CSLs had the chromed alloy (which confirms the above)

CSL 1mm Holy Aluminium Number Plate Restoration

Many thanks, Markos - an easy switch to make if cheaper to produce and 400 grams lighter and the tooling is straight forward. Anyone with an unmolested City Pack CSL who can tell us if they have aluminum or chrome plated alloy? If more than a few have chrome I will be happy to follow and save...

CSL 1mm Holy Aluminium Number Plate Restoration

Many thanks. However, I have a question which makes me reticent to switch to alloy: I guess for cost reduction reasons BMW switched to a stamped, polished and anodized aluminum sheet version, much cheaper to make. When they made the e46 they looked at many components to see if they could...

CSL 1mm Holy Aluminium Number Plate Restoration

Great to hear. As above I had purchased a supposed light weight version from the states which wasn’t chromed but was matt relative to my pure aluminum version and was considerably thicker. Is yours only 1mm thick too - which appears to be the type installed on my second generation CSL City Pack car?

CSL 1mm Holy Aluminium Number Plate Restoration

Thanks, Markos I did buy one from Ben at CSi in my early days and he sent an aluminum one that appeared the same from a photo was quite different. It was much thicker perhaps 3 mm and seemed more alloy in composition so well less shiny. Perhaps that put me off. Are referring to that type, not...

CSL 1mm Holy Aluminium Number Plate Restoration

Dear all, I am switching from Australian "Euro style" super long number plates to the much shorter Historic Club Plates. As a consequence, my number plate panels' many holes will be revealed. I have spoken to several Sydney based restorers and jewellers without joy and I am now chasing down...

    CSL Headrests

I have been exploring getting headrests (for safety and aesthetics). I have contacted the original Scheel factory in Australia and they say it is on their to-do list but they might only get to it in a year We found two other sources, but they have both become dead ends. One was an American...

    CSL Re-Birth - Sydney

As promised, "The Closing Credits" or the providers I used that I would highly recommend: Steve at Scotts Panel for all restoration work, especially panel and paint (but also for example a masterful job getting the windows to work so perfectly - incredible!) Paul at...

Yes - they would be the ideal team I couldn't recommend them more highly and as many of you who have followed this thread know, I have first hand experience with several other supposedly highly regarded shops. Here are the A-Team as I take final final delivery!

    CSL Re-Birth - Sydney

It might be helpful to write a review of all the suppliers I used? Paul worked with the restorers and the trimmers on the air conditioning. Paul was excellent, very thorough and in my view charged fairly but not cheaply nor expensively He is on...

    CSL Re-Birth - Sydney

I am overseas but will take some pictures and post when I return - we used the original factory manual diagrams and an auto air conditioning specialist who is also an auto electrician and the restorers are raving about him if a Sydney contact will help ping me.

Thanks Looks like they have done a great job on the Verona car. Apart from the aesthetic decision on the heavy rear bumper and addition of the roof spoiler, the only restoration differences I can pick up are that I used original spec Michelin tyres and used the blacked out sticker behind the...

    CSL Re-Birth - Sydney

This car wasn't delivered to Australia originally so didnt have it fitted, but I have seen several in Australia with air con and even one with a sunroof - so it wasn't an uncommon option here and pretty essential for me to enjoy the car in Sydney. Same with the e46CSL - every e46CSL I have seen...

    CSL Re-Birth - Sydney

Thanks Gazz Yes it does look a little low - it is SS from Walloch and I found the original Walloch supplied brackets were not strong enough so asked for better ones to be made, but clearance is important so will take a look. Street sign irrelevant - just the photographer taking advantage of...

    CSL Re-Birth - Sydney

Final pics! As promised a couple of professional pictures of the car(s) - there are about 20 of this type but all large files - let me know if anyone interested and suggestions for where I should best host them (apart from here). Thanks again for everyone's help!
