Hi Mates,
need to repair (weld) my genuine old toolbox and need to know what exact type of plastic it was originally made of.
Maybe someone of you welded toolbox before and know exact plastic specs?
Looked everywhere in the toolbox for any markings of used material, but unfortunately nothing there.
Thanks, will appreciate any info.

Not having one at hand, but there are 2 likely candidates: ABS or PS (polystyrene). Both can be welded by an experienced plastic welder.

Easy way to identify is to burn a piece and search for the typical styrene smell. It can also be smelled when you drill a hole in it. Styrene for the "S" in both ABS ans PS. Benchmark your nose if needed by setting one these white plastic cuttlery things or one of these hard clear CD 'jewel" case on fire.

but after you weld it, don't you think it will just crack in another spot?
Erik.

Want to use metal net in welding places, personally think that it will strengthen welded areas. But anyway - never know if it will work long-term.
